Mert Ermen Arkan helps domestic and foreign entities on a wide range of international trade related issues, with a particular focus on AD/CVD work. Mert has experience assisting with trade remedy proceedings before the U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. International Trade Commission, and the World Trade Organization. He has also helped clients, based both in the United States and abroad, navigate various domestic and international Customs administrative processes, including tariff classifications. Prior to joining Barnes, Richardson & Colburn, Mert worked in-house for the United States Steel Corporation and reported directly to the Associate General Counsel for Trade.

Arkan is a member of the D.C. Bar, the American Bar Association, and the Customs and International Trade Bar Association.

He graduated from Georgetown University Law Center in 2018. During his time at Georgetown Mert earned a World Trade Organization Studies Certificate and was a member of the Journal of Law and Public Policy. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University, where he majored in Political Science and minored in Economics and Turkish.

Mert is fluent in English and Turkish and has three additional language qualifications at the IB (French, Spanish) and GCSE (German) level. Mert was born in the United States but spent his middle-school and high-school years studying at various international schools while living in Switzerland and Germany. He holds an EU work permit and has worked for a period of at least two months in seven different countries.
