June 21, 2012

On June 21, 2012, the White House released a statement from the President announcing that he has accepted John Bryson’s resignation as Secretary of the Department of Commerce. Bryson, who was confirmed last October, had been on medical leave since June 11th after suffering from a seizure and two car crashes. President Obama noted that Bryson will serve as a member of his Export Council going forward. Dr. Rebecca Blank will continue to serve as Acting Secretary of the Department of Commerce, a role she previously held for close to three months during Bryson’s confirmation process. Acting Secretary Blank was confirmed as Deputy Secretary of Commerce last April.
