Department of Homeland Security Issues Blanket Jones Act Waiver for Northeastern Ports

November 5, 2012

As a result of Hurricane Sandy, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued a temporary, blanket waiver of the Jones Act to allow additional oil tankers coming from the Gulf of Mexico to enter Northeastern ports. On November 3, 2012, DHS expanded the waiver to facilitate the transportation of feedstocks, blending components, and additives used to produce fuels. The waiver, which is designed to provide the region with additional fuel resources, is operative through November 13, 2012.
