United States and Argentina Call for Dispute Settlement Panels

December 6, 2012

On December 5, 2012, Argentina announced that it had filed formal complaints at the Word Trade Organization (WTO) against the United States regarding U.S. restrictions on the import of fresh bovine meat and lemons from Argentina. Shortly following Argentina’s announcement, on December 6, 2012, United States Trade Representative Ron Kirk announced that the United States has requested the establishment of a WTO Dispute Settlement Panel to examine Argentina’s import restrictions on all U.S. goods imported into Argentina. The requests for Dispute Settlement Panels follow consultations which Argentina and the United States requested in August and September which failed to resolve their disputes.
