FDA and CFS Propose Timelines for FSMA Implementation

June 12, 2013

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Center for Food Safety (CFS) independently filed proposals for implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2011 (FSMA), following an April 22, 2013, ruling requiring the parties to agree to and submit a timeline.  In the FDA’s June 10, 2013, submission, it outlined “target dates” rather than hard deadlines, arguing multiple factors and variables make predicting a specific date to publish FSMA regulations unfeasible.  In response to the FDA dates, CFA submitted its own timeline, noting that the FDA’s open-ended “target timeframe” does not comply with the Court’s order.
