CBP Issues Filing Instructions for GSP Expiration

July 16, 2013

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently released a message indicating specific procedures for filers after the July 31, 2013 expiration of the General System of Preferences (GSP).  If GSP has not been renewed after that deadline, importers will be required to pay the normal trade relations (column 1) duty rate and flag GSP eligible goods with SPI (A or A+), if applicable.  Following these steps will ensure filers duty refunds if the program is renewed with a retroactive clause.
