U.S., Morocco Approves Bilateral Trade Agreement

Recently, United States Trade Representative (USTR) Michael Froman and Moroccan Minister of Economy and Finance Mohamed Boussaid signed a Trade Facilitation Agreement, which advances the pre-existing 2004 U.S. and Morocco Free-Trade Agreement. According to a USTR press release, Morocco is the first country in its region to sign an agreement with the U.S. that furthers modernization and customs reform. The agreement seeks to expedite trade by improving cooperation between the countries’ customs with the use of information technology. Ambassador Froman commented, “Morocco has a strong commitment to continuing to build a modern economy for the 21st century. This agreement will make doing business both easier and more transparent for both American and Moroccan companies.”
