Baucus Appears Before Senate Foreign Relations Committee

On January 28, 2014, current Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) testified before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations concerning his nomination to become the next U.S. Ambassador to China.  While speaking before the committee, Baucus touted his contribution to the passage of 11 free trade agreements, as well as his work abroad promoting U.S. trade interests in developed and developing countries.  Additionally, the Chairman outlined two broad goals in his testimony: (1) develop the U.S. – China relationship in manner mutually beneficial to both countries, and (2) encourage the Chinese to “act responsibly” in regards to human right abuses, environmental issues, and international disputes.

President Obama officially nominated Senator Max Baucus to become the next Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China on January 7th, after officially announcing his intent in December.
