Four Chinese Producers Permitted to Import Poultry to U.S

On November 5, 2014, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that four poultry producers, Shangdong Delicate Food Co., Weifang Legang Food Co., Ltd, Qingyun Ruifeng Food Co., Ltd and Qingdao Nine-alliance Group Co., Lt, have been certified to export their product to the United States. The chickens must either be heat treated or slaughtered in the United States or another approved country. FSIS stated China may export products that “are fully cooked and not shelf-stable.” This decision follows an August 2013 audit that found “China’s processed poultry inspection system was equivalent to that of the United States.”
