CBP Commissioner Wants to Increase Collaboration between CBP and Intelligence Community

12/14/2010

During the North American Competitiveness and Global Supply Chain Summit on December 7, 2010 Alan Bersin, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CPB) Commissioner stated that the best way for CBP to advance its search for the cargoes and persons that threaten the United States is to improve CBP’s relationship with the intelligence community. Bersin addressed programs such as the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) in particular, saying that they need to be “taken to a new level.” The CBP currently hopes to increase C-TPAT’s membership beyond its current 10,000 members. Bersin also noted that collaboration between CBP and the Transportation Security Administration has reached unprecedented levels since the Yemen cargo plot.
