Brazil Formally Delays Duties in Cotton Dispute Until June 21, 2010

April 28, 2010

Brazil’s Foreign Trade Chamber (CAMEX) issued a resolution on April 20, 2010, formally delaying the increased duties on the U.S. products that were set to take effect this month. Brazil agreed to delay the increased duties as part of the “path forward” on resolving the cotton dispute.

The resolution followed U.S. action to open its market to beef from certain parts of Brazil, alter certain subsidy programs for cotton farmers, and begin paying into a fund designated for capacity building in Brazil’s cotton sector. For more on the “Path Forward,” click here.
