DHS Launches New Import Safety Unit

December 10, 2009

On December 8, 2009 the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced the creation of a new Customs and Border Protection (CBP) unit designed to streamline and enhance federal efforts to address imports safety issues called the Import Safety Commercial Targeting and Analysis Center (CTAC).   CTAC will consist of approximately 30 personnel drawn from U.S. agencies that have regulations enforced at the border by CBP, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Food Safety Inspection Service.

The new unit will protect the U.S. Public from unsafe imported products by improving communication and information sharing, and reducing redundant inspection activities.
