CBP to Begin Enforcement of 10+2 on January 26, 2010

December 9, 2009

At the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Trade Symposium on Tuesday, Acting Commissioner Jayson Ahern stated that full enforcement of the 10 + 2 Importer Security Filing (ISF) interim final rule will start with an “informed compliance” beginning January 26, 2010.

According to Ahern, CBP’s approach will be similar to how it implemented the 24 hour rule. Ahern also stated that CBP will use the least punitive enforcement measures necessary to guarantee compliance and that all 10 + 2 penalties will be handled by Headquarters.

Barnes/Richardson attorneys will be attending the Customs Trade Symposium all week and will continue to update www.barnesrichardson.com with any news from the event.
