CPSIA Update: CPSC to Allow Manufacturers/Importers to Use Websites to Make Tracking Info Available

July 23, 2009

In a recently updated frequently asked questions (FAQ) document, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) provided additional guidance on the tracking label requirement for children’s products mandated by Section 103(a) of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA).

In the FAQ, the CPSC says it will now consider the requirements of Section 103(a) met if a product is marked with a code and website address where all the required information of Section 103(a) can be found. The name of the manufacturer or private labeler must still be identified on the packaging and product so that a consumer without internet access can know whom to contact directly to also obtain the required information.

The FAQ also addresses reasonableness of marking certain products, such as socks and other textile products, with the required information of Section 103(a). To read the CPSC’s FAQ, click here.
