Trade Agenda Moving Forward

The Office of the USTR has announced that it is ready to begin working with Congress on implementation legislation for all three pending FTAs. Administration officials are expected to begin technical discussions with key members of Congress on Thursday morning regarding the South Korea, Colombia, and Panama FTAs. Earlier today, the USTR sent letters to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the Senate Finance and House Ways and Means Committee indicating that Colombia has taken the necessary steps to move forward with the Colombia FTA. Reports have also indicated that the Administration and key Congressional players may have reached an agreement to allow for passage of other stalled trade legislation, including the Andean Trade Preferences Act, GSP, the Customs Reauthorization Bill, the Second Miscellaneous Tariff Bill, and Trade Adjustment Assistance.
