July 1999
Update on Transshipment

On July 19, 1999 Customs posted to its Electronic Bulletin Board an up dated list of Hong Kong companies convicted of transshipping textile products, Taiwanese companies on which administrative penalties were issued and Macau companies assessed penalties for transshipping textile products or confirmed to have licenses canceled or are closed. The list identifies a number of companies that have multiple convictions and a number of companies that are new to the list. Importers should use reasonable care when placing orders with a manufacturer named on the list or has work sub-contracted to a listed manufacturer. U.S. Customs will detain shipments from listed manufacturers until production records are presented to confirm production and a confirmation is made as to the status of the factory. Customs also listed companies that are known to have no production capacity because they have lost their license to operate or have closed down. Click here for the entire listing and notice.
