Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea and Niger Designated AGOA Beneficiary sub-Saharan African Countries

October 25, 2011

On October 25, 2011, the White House issued a Presidential Proclamation designating the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire (Côte d'Ivoire), the Republic of Guinea (Guinea), and the Republic of Niger (Niger) as eligible sub-Saharan African countries and as beneficiary sub-Saharan African countries under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). The President further categorized Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea and Niger as lesser developed beneficiary sub-Saharan African countries for purposes of section 112(c) of the AGOA. The Harmonized Tariff Schedule will be modified to reflect these changes.

The reinstatement of eligibility for the three nations reflects progress they have demonstrated by making democratic improvements to their governments, including conducting free and fair presidential elections.
