FDA to Add Chief Science Officer and Research Director for FSMA Implementation

According to Michael Taylor, the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) Deputy Commissioner, the FDA is recruiting a Chief Science Officer and Research Director to help the agency navigate new challenges posed by the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). The new position is designed to provide strategic direction for the agency as it implements new requirements under the FSMA. The Chief Science Officer and Research Director will also be expected to lead research and methods development activities related to FSMA, and to ensure that available resources, including funding and expertise, are dedicated to the most critical public health needs.
