CBP to Establish Six New CEEs in FY 2013

November 29, 2012

U.S Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Deputy Commissioner David Aguilar recently revealed CBP’s plan to establish six new Centers of Excellence and Expertise (CEEs) in FY 2013.

The six proposed CEEs are:

  • Agriculture & Prepared Products (Miami)
  • Apparel, Footwear & Textiles (San Francisco)
  • Base Metals (Chicago)
  • Consumer Products & Mass Merchandising (Atlanta)
  • Industrial & Manufacturing Materials (Buffalo)
  • Machinery (Laredo)

Despite earlier plans to create a combined CEE for Base Metals and Machinery, CBP decided to split Base Metals and Machinery into two separate CEEs. The CEEs are designed to provide greater predictability and consistency and to enhance CBP’s enforcement efforts. They are also intended to centralize processing for trusted partners in their respective industries.

CBP is currently operating four CEEs focused on Automotive and Aerospace, Pharmaceuticals, Electronics, and Petroleum, Natural Gas and Minerals.
