House Passes the Patent Law Treaties Implementation Act of 2012

December 6, 2012

On December 5, 2012, the U.S. House of Representatives passed S.  3486, the Patent Law Treaties Implementation Act of 2012.  The Senate approved the bill by unanimous consent September 24, 2012, and it will now be sent to President Obama.

If signed into law, the bill would implement both the Patent Law Treaty and The Hague Agreement Concerning International Registration of Industrial Designs, two patent law treaties ratified by the Senate in 2007.  These treaties would support American inventors in foreign countries by reducing costs for those pursuing Patent Protection and simplifying procedures for design registration and protection.
