Penny Pritzker Confirmed as U.S. Secretary of Commerce

On Tuesday, June 23, 2013, the Senate confirmed Penny Pritzker as Commerce secretary with a sweeping vote of 97-1. She previously worked as the national finance chairwoman on President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign and as the national co-chairwoman of his reelection campaign. President Obama released a statement commenting, “Penny is a proven leader, a successful entrepreneur, and one of the most accomplished and highly-respected women in business today.” Pritzker is filling the vacant position, which opened after John Bryson resigned last summer.
