CBP Clarifies Iranian Sanctions Regulations

July 16, 2013

Recently, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) posted clarifications of regulations that prohibit imports from Iran.  Since the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act took effect on September 29, 2010, no imports from Iran can be legally imported into the United States.  However, the following items/transactions are authorized under the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) general license:  information materials, Iranian-origin gifts, articles for personal travel use, and household goods. In addition, effective May 30, 2013, an OFAC General License D authorizes the exportation and reexportation from the United States to persons in Iran of certain services, software, and hardware incident to personal communications.
