October 04, 2013

The United States will not participate in the second round of Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) negotiations next week in Brussels, the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced today.  Citing “financial and staffing constraints” due to the government shutdown, USTR Michael Forman informed EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht during a phone call that the U.S. will not be able to send a full team to negotiate.  The USTR plans to reschedule the meeting after the government reopens.
