ATF Lengthens Import Permit Terms for Firearms

February 11, 2014

U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), recently issued a final rule increasing the term of import of firearms, ammunition and defense articles from one to two years.  According to the rule, the previous term did not give importers adequate time to fully complete the import transaction, and, now that ATF has lengthened the term, importers will not need to submit a new application (ATF Form 6).  The ATF believes new regulation will save money and time for the Bureau and the domestic industry without any discernable adverse impact.  It is set to go into effect on April 08, 2014.
