Australia TPP Round

October 28, 2014

A three day meeting regarding the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) took place October 25-27, 2014 in Australia.  In a press release on October 27, the ministers and heads of delegations for the TPP countries stated that they made progress on “the market access negotiations and negotiations on the trade and investment rules.”  Leaders at the round revealed that they made progress on State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) by developing principles that will regulate SOEs and control exceptions to the provisions.  Japan has also set forth new tariff proposals that will reportedly increase market access for multiple countries.  Negotiators and working groups will continue to discuss and craft the intellectual property, SOES, and rules of origin chapters.
