Chicago Partner Larry Friedman Becomes President of CITBA

January 4, 2015

On January 1, 2016, Larry Friedman, a partner in our Chicago office, became president of the Customs and International Trade Bar Association as a result of the retirement of outgoing president Joe Dorn. CITBA was founded in 1917 and incorporated in 1926. Its members are attorneys who are interested in the field of customs law, export controls, international trade law and related matters. Members represent importers, exporters, domestic producers, and government agencies in all aspects of the federal regulation of international trade.
Larry expects CITBA to continue to support the trade community through continuing legal education programs, comments on trade policy issues, and, when appropriate, amicus briefs in important customs and trade cases of wide applicability. In addition, CITBA takes an active role in providing comments to the Senate Judiciary Committee on nominees to the Court of International Trade and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
According to Larry, “CITBA has a long history of serving the trade bar and working closely with the Court of International Trade and Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. I hope to continue Joe’s excellent work while also expanding the reach of CITBA to better include lawyers around the country and in other countries. Trade is by definition an international exercise and CITBA strives to represent lawyers practicing in all aspects of trade law, regardless of their location.”
