Ways and Means, Finance Introduce New MTB Bill

April 14, 2016

The leadership of both the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Finance Committee introduced the American Manufacturing Competitiveness Act on April 11. This new bill aims to promote the lowering of tariffs on hundreds of imported products without removing the House’s strict prohibition on earmarks.

The bill requires the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) to solicit and review proposals for duty suspension and reductions and then submit a report to Congress. The ITC would be required to publish a notice soliciting proposed duty suspensions and reductions by October 15, 2016.
