ITC Report: Even Without Trade Restrictions, U.S. Exports to Cuba Face Difficulties

According to an ITC report released April 18, several sectors of U.S. business, particularly agricultural producers, stand to benefit greatly from the opening of trade with Cuba. The report cited proximity of the U.S. to Cuba as a primary reason for short term increases in exports.

Nevertheless, Cuba’s state-controlled economy, among other non-trade barriers, were cited as potential hindrances to U.S. trade interests in the long term.
