U.S. and Canada Sign Food Safety Comparability Agreement

May 4, 2016—The United States and Canada agreed to recognize each other’s food safety regulations and enforcement systems as comparable. The majority of Canadian food exporters are now exempt from additional food safety verifications under the FDA’s Foreign Supplier Verification Program. Systems recognition also paves the way for greater scientific collaboration and integration of responses to food-borne illnesses or insect outbreaks.
