U.S. Visits Vietnam: Obama Lifts 50-Year-Old Arms Embargo, Promotes TPP

President Obama announced that the prohibition on U.S. arms sales to Vietnam has been lifted during his diplomatic visit to the southeast Asian country earlier this week. Lifting the prohibition represents a significant step in normalizing trade relations between the two countries. Both he and Vietnamese President, Tran Dai Quang, also expressed their determination to “quickly and fully” implement the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
