Commerce Initiates Section 232 Investigation for Imported Autos and Auto Parts

The Department of Commerce initiated a Section 232 investigation into automotive imports.  Like the other Section 232 investigations pending concerning Steel and Aluminum, this investigation seeks to determine whether certain automobile imports and parts thereof threaten national security interests.  The investigation scope will include fully assembled and constitutive parts of:
  • SUVs
  • Vans
  • Light trucks
The Commerce Department published a release announcing the investigation's initiation and a forthcoming Federal Register scheduling notice.
