Food Safety Bill Hits Potential Roadblock

12/01/2010

A procedural error in the Food Safety bill passed by the Senate on Tuesday may delay action on the food safety legislation. The version of the Food Safety bill that passed the Senate contains fees that may be considered tax provisions. Under Congressional rules, tax provisions are supposed to originate in the House. Should the language in Sec. 107 of the Senate bill be considered a tax provision, the House may decide to send the bill back to the Senate for another vote.
