Mr. Eighan is an associate at Barnes, Richardson & Colburn’s Chicago office and advises clients on a broad range of customs and trade law matters, with particular focus on tariff classifications, valuation, country of origin determinations, marking, antidumping and countervailing duties, free trade agreements, trade remedies, compliance assessments, penalties, and enforcement actions.

Mr. Eighan provides proactive plans for companies to address international trade issues, such as advising on and implementing strategies to mitigate Section 301 tariffs on Chinese goods or evaluating multi-national manufacturing processes for country of origin determinations. He also provides reactive representation by defending clients involved in customs investigations, facing import or export penalties, and in cases before the U.S. Court of International Trade.

Mr. Eighan has been a licensed U.S. customs broker since 2019 and brings years of industry experience in trade compliance and logistics to help clients navigate the complexities of international trade laws. Prior to joining Barnes, Richardson & Colburn, Mr. Eighan served as a trade attorney with another boutique international trade law firm and clerked with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Office of the Chief Counsel for Trade Enforcement & Compliance.

Mr. Eighan graduated cum laude from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law in 2023. While attending law school, he served as the President of the International Business and Trade Law Society, as well as the Lead Articles Editor and on the Executive Board of the UIC Law Review. Mr. Eighan also excelled in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, earning international recognition for his oral advocacy.

Mr. Eighan graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in German and Political Science from Saint John’s University/College of Saint Benedict with honors. Following the completion of his undergraduate degree, Mr. Eighan served as an International Parliamentary Scholar in the German Bundestag, supporting members of German parliament on domestic and international trade matters.

Mr. Eighan is admitted to the U.S. Court of International Trade and the Illinois Bar.
