The Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security will now issue its decision in 2026 on nearly 100 new requests to expand Section 232 national security tariffs to additional steel and aluminum derivative products, despite a stated 60-day timeline.
The delay follows a first round of approvals that added hundreds of products within scope of Section 232 and drew criticism from EU officials, which has raised the issue in ongoing trade talks with the U.S. The investigation’s second request window closed in October, and decisions originally due by Nov. 28 have been pushed back without explanation, according to InsideTrade.
We will continue to monitor these developments and provide updates accordingly. Should you have any questions regarding Section 232 duties, or any other trade-related questions, do not hesitate to contact any attorney at Barnes Richardson and Colburn.
