CBP Opens Auto and Aerospace CEE

September 10, 2012

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently announced the opening of the Automotive and Aerospace Center of Excellence and Expertise (CEE) in Detroit. The Automotive and Aerospace CEE, which opened on September 4, 2012, has already begun centralized processing for trusted partners within the automotive and aerospace industry. According to CBP, in addition to enhancing CBP’s enforcement efforts, the CEE will provide one-stop processing and allow for greater consistency and predictability. Personnel at the CEE will answer questions, provide information and develop trade facilitation strategies to address uniformity and compliance concerns. They will also serve as a single point of processing for businesses enrolled in CBP’s trusted shipper programs, including the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program and the Importer Self-Assessment (ISA) program.

CBP has previously established a CEE for Pharmaceuticals in New York and a CEE for Electronics in Los Angeles. CBP expects to open a Center for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Minerals in Houston by the end of the month.
