CBP Suspends Port Operations, Extends Entry Deadlines Due to Hurricane Isaac

Multiple ports on the Gulf Coast have suspended operations due to Hurricane Isaac. As a result of building closures caused by the storm, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is extending deadlines for the filing of entries and payment of duties and fees that were due on August 28-29, 2012, for the Mobile, Alabama, Pascagoula, Mississippi, Gulfport, Mississippi, and New Orleans ports. The extension also applies to brokers whose service centers are located in the Mobile area or in the New Orleans metropolitan area. The filings of entries and payment of duties and fees are now due August 30, 2012.

CBP has released the following information regarding Port Operations Status:

Port of Pascagoula:
Port of Pascagoula temporarily suspended operations at 1600 8/27/2012. CBP Port administrative offices will temporarily suspend operations on 8/28/12 until conditions allow for business resumption.

Port of Gulfport:
Port of Gulfport temporarily suspended operations at 2200 8/27/2012. CBP Port administrative offices temporarily suspended operations on 8/28/12 until conditions allow for business resumption.

Port of Mobile:
The Alabama State Port Authority has temporarily suspended receiving all inbound cargo. All vessel processing operations were temporarily suspended on 8/26/2012 at 1500 CST. CBP Port of Mobile temporarily suspended cargo processing operations at 1500 8/27/2012, and the Mobile Container Terminal also temporarily suspended operations at 1700 CST. CBP Port administrative offices temporarily suspend operations on 8/28/12 until conditions allow for business resumption.

New Orleans Airport:
New Orleans Louis Armstrong International Airport (KMSY) closed as of 2200 on 8/28/12. It will remain closed until weather allows incoming flights.

Port of Morgan City:
CBP Port administrative offices will temporarily suspend operations on 8/28/12 and will resume when conditions allow.

Port of Gramercy:
CBP Port administrative offices will temporarily suspend operations at 1200 CST on 8/28/12 and will resume when conditions allow.

Port of Baton Rouge:
CBP Port administrative offices will remain open for transactions with the exception of duty collections 8/28/12 and will resume full administrative capability when conditions allow.

Port of New Orleans:
Container terminal operators temporarily suspending operations at 1700 hours today (08/27/12). CBP Port of New Orleans will temporarily suspend cargo processing operations at 1700. CBP Port administrative offices will remain open for transactions with the exception of duty collections 8/28/12 and will resume full administrative capability when conditions allow.
