China Promises to Cut Steel Capacity, Cooperate on Customs and IP Enforcement

According to a joint fact sheet released June 7, Chinese officials have committed to cut China’s steel production in order to curb its overcapacity and to spend over $15 billion to encourage restructuring of the Chinese steel industry. During the U.S. – China Strategic and Economic Dialogue, both countries also agreed to work more closely together on customs enforcement, intellectual property rights, and harmonization of standards.
