Just days after President Trump imposed 25 percent tariffs on all Mexican imports, Trump announced on X (formally Twitter) that he will delay the tariffs by a month after Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum agreed to send 10,000 soldiers to the border.
This delay comes after Mexican President Sheinbaum and Trump had a “friendly conversation” in which the Mexican President agreed to immediately send soldiers to the border separating Mexico and the United States, and that the soldiers would specifically seek stop the flow of fentanyl and migrants into the United States. The two Presidents further agreed to negotiations headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent, and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and high-level Representatives of Mexico.
President Trump also stated that he had a conversation with Canadian Prime Minster Justin Trudeau Monday morning and would be speaking with him again later in the day. As of right now the tariffs against Canada and China are still slated to go into effect tomorrow.
