US, EU Advance towards C-TPAT and AEO Mutual Recognition

February 20, 2009

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has posted on its website a roadmap for achieving mutual recognition of its Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) with the European Union’s Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) supply chain security programs.

Mutual recognition will allow companies of one supply chain security program to receive benefits identical or comparable to those conferred to companies participating in another supply chain security program. The EU and US agreed to study the feasibility of establishing mutual recognition for the two programs in 2006 and both aim to achieve mutual recognition in 2009.
