Obama: "Fast-Track" Authority Necessary to Complete Trade Agreements

During a speech at yesterday ‘s meeting of the President’s Export Council, President Obama said gaining trade promotion authority (TPA) from Congress is key to moving forward with trade agreement negotiations.  According to the President, the Trans-pacific Partnership will allow greater access to the “largest, most dynamic, fastest growing market in the world,” and a successful agreement with the EU will “enhance what is already robust trade with Europe.”  TPA is critical to a successfully concluding both of these negotiations.  Obama also suggested the passage of TPA will be bipartisan, pointing out that Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell currently supports granting the President “fast-track” authority.
