USTR Trade Agenda Touts TPP

March 4, 2016

The 2016 U.S. trade agenda was released by the USTR on March 2. The agenda includes vigorous arguments in favor of the TPP and calls upon Congress to conclude debate on the Agreement and pass the necessary legislation by the close of the year.

USTR’s report maintains that TPP is indispensable for its 2016 agenda, but offers to lawmakers no concrete deadline for its implementation discussions. Republican leadership remains opposed to any legislative action on TPP before the conclusion of election season.

The agenda also discusses other topics, including the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, Trade in Services Agreement, and USTR’s trade enforcement efforts.
