Section 201 Global Safeguards Petition Filed Concerning Imports of Residential Washers

May 31, 2017 -- Whirlpool Corporation filed a petition with the International Trade Commission requesting global safeguard relief from imports of large residential washers.  Section 201 investigations are neither restricted to a specific country's exports, nor is the issuance of remedies contingent upon the existence of unfair trade practices, as in antidumping or countervailing duty investigations.

The merchandise covered by this petition's scope is all automatic clothes washing machines, regardless of the orientation of the rotational axis, with a cabinet width of at least 24.5 inches and nor more than 32 inches, measured from its widest point, as well as certain of its constituent parts:
  • Cabinets or parts thereof
  • Assembled tubs which inclued a tub and a seal
  • Assembled baskets with their side wrappers, bases, and drive hubs
  • Any combination of these parts or assemblies
